BEETROOT: RED DEVIL
( BETA VULGARIS )
Though usually grown as an annual, this biennial is a very hardy beetroot variety which is cultivated more for the leaves rather than for the beetroot itself.
The leaves are a spectacularly deep, vivid red with an exquisite flavour. Enjoyed raw they make a show- stopping addition to any salad. Cooked they have a delightfully sweet flavour.
